Introduction to SCG
Operations is not sexy. It’s one of the most overlooked functions of a business. When founders are starting companies they typically don’t fantasize over what operations will look like. Here is how a founder might think.
What product will I make for customers?
What materials will it be made of?
What features will it include?
How will I market this?
What stories will I tell?
Who will use the product?
Where will they use the product? Cabo? Back office in Cleveland, OH (maybe not fun), but someone has to use the new office chair you’re making!
You can see how operations can be overlooked. It is fun to dream while operations are grounded in reality. Here is insight into the mind of an operations person.
How will we make this product?
Where will we source the materials?
How will we include all these features while still hitting gross margins?
How will marketing affect the inventory we need?
Do the stories we are telling reflect the actual product we are producing?
How do we get the product to our customers?
As a founder focus on the first set of questions!
It is your job to create a beautiful product that customers love. Figure out what your customers want and give it to them. Tell stories about your product and spread the word to the masses. Once you have some product-market fit THEN let’s focus on the second set of questions. That is where SCG comes in.
At SCG our mission is to help companies grow from initial product success (typically sub $1m in revenue) to 7-figure and then 8-figure revenue. Getting from $0 - $100,000 in revenue takes a specific set of skills. Often these skills (product, marketing, sales) come naturally to entrepreneurs. As companies go from $100,000 to $1m the need for operational and financial knowledge and skill increases. Going from $1m to $10m requires more of this.
Simply put, we exist to fill the growing operations and finance experience gap that exists in many small businesses. We help founders relieve stress, focus on their strengths, and grow their business. Whether we work together or not, I wish you the very best in your entrepreneurial journey!
